Yesterday Squirrels went on safari looking for Africa`s most famous animals. We were lucky enough to see most things though the tree climbing rhino was a surprise! We also customised our safari jeep so it is longer, has a door and best of all the gear stick dispenses ice cream. Well apparently!!
Now that we are in Africa we have been finding out about African fruit, even daring to try some mango, guava and avocado ! We shared the book Handa`s Surprise and have used puppets to retell the story.... We have built a safari jeep outside... Had a leopard in the classroom... Used some African instruments...
You may remember that at towards the end of last year we took part in the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme. With the money received we have purchased a new story telling chair and seating for the Spiritual Garden. The new items were hand made by local artist Neith Art. We are now looking forward to some warm weather to enjoy story time outside.
Our flight to Nairobi, Kenya went smoothly with only a little turbulence on the flight ! The children had to pass through customs and passport control before boarding the aircraft. Captain Charman and the flight crew helped those children who could not find their seat and the children listened to the pre-flight briefing attentively especially noting where the exits and loos on the aircraft were located. In flight entertainment consisted of watching The Lion King and the child
Yesterday, as part of the Health and Safety Curriculum, Foxes class visited SafeWise in Weymouth. The children sampled realistic and immersive learning experiences from car accidents to crossing roads safely.
We are getting ready for our trip to Africa by getting our passports ready and writing and tying luggage labels. We also helped Mr Charman pack his suitcase with what we thought he might need for a holiday in a hot country like Kenya. I think Mr Charman was pleased that we packed his sunglasses (and his teddy) !
