Welcome to Beech Class

Class Teacher: Mrs Johnson

Teaching Assistants: Miss Brown and Miss Atkins

Welcome to Beech Class.

This half term Beech’s topic is ‘Vicious Vikings’.  We will be looking at where the Vikings originally came from, when they came and why they came. We will delve into the past to learn about how the kings of Britain dealt with the arrival of the Vikings and the impact on Britain, especially regarding life now as we know it. We will look at the artefacts the Vikings left behind and what they tell us about the way they lived.

This half term, we are lucky to have the skills of a samba teacher in school to show us how to create some amazing music that we will be able to share with all of the parents in February.

Our class novel this half term is Abominables by Eva Ibbotson. We will be using this text to imitate the writing style, to encourage discussion and to develop inference and deduction skills.  In addition we will create diary entries from the characters’ perspectives.

We have P.E on Monday afternoon and Friday morning. Please can all children have the appropriate P.E kit in school on those days.

The children will not be taking part in Forest school this half term. This will recommence after February half term.

Children will receive homework on a Friday, which will include spellings, times-tables and a task linked to the topic. Please continue to encourage your children to read daily as it will have a very positive effect on their learning. There is also an expectation for your child to log onto Doodle Maths and Times Tables Rock Stars regularly during the week.  These are both excellent resources to use at home and they really help to reinforce new maths concepts.

Thank you very much for your support.  If you have any queries, feel free to come into school or call me.
