Welcome to Beech Class
Class Teacher: Mrs Johnson
Teaching Assistants: Miss Brown and Miss Atkins
Welcome to Beech Class.
This half term Beech’s topic is ‘Local Study’. We will be comparing and contrasting Wool and Wareham through the ages. We will explore how the town of Wareham changed from being a very busy, important port, to the Wareham we see today. We will discover how the roads in Wareham got their names; learn about the great fire of Wareham and the history of Corfe Castle.
This half term, we are lucky to have the skills of a samba teacher in school to show us how to create some amazing music that we will be able to share with all of the parents this half term.
Our class novel is still the Abominables by Eva Ibbotson. We will continue to use this text to imitate the writing style, to encourage discussion and to develop inference and deduction skills. In addition we will create diary entries from the characters’ perspectives.
We have P.E on Friday mornings, so please can all children have the appropriate P.E kit in school on those days. There is only one session of PE this half term because the children have forest school each week where there is a fitness activity included.
The children will be taking part in Forest school this half term, so every Thursday they will need to have the appropriate clothing and footwear in school.
Children will receive homework on a Friday, which will include times-tables and a task linked to the curriculum. Please continue to encourage your children to read daily, I cannot stress the importance of this enough, as it will have a very positive effect on their learning.
There is also an expectation for your child to log onto Doodle Maths and Times Tables Rock Stars regularly during the week. The importance of practising the times tables is essential at the moment as we prepare the year 4 children for their National Test in June. The children are expected to know their tables up to and including the 12 x tables, and be able to answer questions relating to them within a 6 second window of opportunity. More information about this ‘check’ will be provided for parents on Monday 27th April.
Thank you very much for your support. If you have any queries, feel free to come into school or call me.
