Collective Worship

All children and staff take part in a daily act of Collective Worship, which is underpinned by Christianity and can draw upon fables, stories, Bible readings and/or current affairs.  Collective Worship at Wool CE Primary School actively promotes pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. We believe collective worship should invite our school community to engage and aims to inspire and feel relevant.

Collective worship is an important part of the life of a church school. It is a time for community, where our school family comes together to reflect, celebrate and explore. It is a time of challenge, where all are encouraged and inspired to wrestle with the 'big questions' of life and relationships. It is a time of intentional spirituality when, in an invitational and inclusive way, all can experience spirituality through various mediums and equip themselves for their ongoing personal journey.

Collective worship at Wool CE Primary recognises that within the school there will be many shades of belief, from committed adherence to differing faiths to the strong assertion that there is nothing beyond our physical experience. Many will be unsure of what they believe or will not have even considered these sorts of questions. Collective worship is for everyone, whatever their starting points and world views. Grounded on the Christian foundation of our school, we seek to use the Christian narrative and understanding, from the Bible and Christian teaching, as a springboard for all to consider how we live together and how we each find our own answer to the universal questions humanity has wrestled with over the centuries. It is not about telling people what to believe, but about encouraging them to think, grow and become more confident in who they are and how they understand the world to be.

Collective Worship Timetable

Our Collective Worship schedule is as follows:

Monday           - Values Focus

Tuesday          - Picture News

Wednesday   - Open the Book Team / West Purbeck Benefice Led

Thursday        - Praise and Singing

Friday              - Celebrations

We generally meet as a whole school but sometimes we gather for class worship sessions to enable more small group discussions.  Collective Worship takes place in our school hall but we also regularly visit the Church of Holy Rood in Wool and invite parents/carers and members of our school community to celebrations at Harvest, Christmas and Easter, for example.

Collective Worship Ambassadors

Our CW Ambassadors meet with Rev Richard and Mrs Griffiths to plan and evaluate the Collective Worship themes throughout the year.  The children are also involved in leading some of the sessions and play a vital role in our CW provision.
